MedInfoGrid Provider for integrated medical information


Goal of the MedInfogrid project is the implementation of a virtual documentation and data sharing server to get together all relevant information like images, findings, research and therapy of specific diseases. The project relies on the German D-Grid initiative and its provided services.
The project gives physicians, scientists and persons concerned the possibility to exchange image-findings and provide them for the usage in research projects whereas the privacy of the patient will be respected and secured. For this purpose, we combine methods and software tools of the different communities in a way that even user without any knowledge about Grid Technology will be able to get access to the Grid Resources. This enables a greater circle of scientists to implement or test time and data intensive imaging and analysis programs. Therefore we have to integrate and harmonise the methods and standards (DICOM, HL7, IHE) of the medical domain, well-established tools (MIRC,TCE-selector) with middleware and technology of the Grid Community (Globus, UNICORE, gLite, OGSA-DAI, SRB ...). Novel is the incorporation of digital pathology images for virtual microscopy with terabytes of data. Furthermore, the integration of DICOM-compatible security mechanisms for a Grid Infrastructure has to be secured.
