The use of sensitive data in the health sector requires new data protection, data security, role and data ownership concepts in the collection, processing and, in particular, evaluation of this data. In cooperation with epidemiological cancer registers, for example, concepts have been developed for the data protection-compliant cancer registration, which are based on two institutionally separate bodies, the trust authority and the registry. The trust centre collects patient-related cancer reports, encrypts the personal identifying data (such as name, address,...) and then transmits this encrypted information - together with the epidemiological data remaining in plain text - to the register centre. The Registry shall permanently store the encrypted personal identifying and epidemiological reporting data. If several, often significantly different reports refer to the same cancer case, they are combined using control numbers and condensed into an epidemiologically evaluable data set.
