ARTEMIS A Semantic Web Service-based P2P Infrastructure for the Interoperability of Medical Information Systems

Goal

The objective of the ARTEMIS project (A Semantic Web Service -based P2P Infrastructure for the Interoperability of Medical Information Systems) is to enhance the abilities of medical information systems - Health Information Systems (HIS) - are focussed to communicate among each other.

Most of the HIS that are in use in health care institutions today are not able to communicate among each other. Due to the fact that there several standards provided by different standard bodies (e.g. HL7, CEN TC251 etc.) but most of the HIS provide only one standard communications even in the same health care institute are limited.

With the objective to solve this problems in ARTEMIS a framework - based on Web Services - is going to be provided that encapsulates the mapping between different standards. The interoperability problem among these standards will be handled at the semantic level using ontologies, ontology mapping and semantic mediation.

ARTEMIS is a European Union funded research project within the IST programme (Project Number IST-1-002103-STP).
