GAiST - Kasper Aging happily with smart living technology

Motivation

The GAiST project aims to improve the quality of life of older people through innovative technologies and to enable them to live a long, self-determined life in their own homes. The integration of AAL/AHT and telemedicine into a unified platform aims to increase the autonomy and safety of residents while supporting nursing and medical care through smart technologies. The combination of artificial intelligence, advanced sensor technology and smart home components is intended to promote health-oriented living that meets the needs of older people and helps them to better cope with everyday challenges.

 

The project also addresses social challenges such as demographic change, the shortage of skilled nursing staff and rising healthcare costs. By using open source solutions and complying with medical and industrial standards, the aim is to create a sustainable model that promises broad applicability and cost efficiency. The motivation includes both the improvement of individual living conditions and the answering of pressing social questions through the use of advanced technologies.

Goal

The overarching goal of the GAiST project is to develop and integrate advanced use cases into a common SmartLivingNEXT platform (GAIA-X) that have already achieved a high technology readiness level of around 5-7. The focus is on equipping age-appropriate apartments with smart home technology. The apartments will be provided by the consortium partners Hospital zum Heiligen Geist and Seniorenzentrum Siegburg. Within the project, more than 30 apartments will be equipped with sensors over a period of 24 months, allowing health-related information to be collected and analyzed. With their specific expertise in the respective domains, the technological consortium partners are contributing to the implementation of an overall system for telemedicine and AAL. Particular attention is paid to artificial intelligence.

 

Another key objective is to create a health-oriented SmartLivingNEXT ecosystem that is closely networked with hospital information systems. This system is intended to provide comprehensive support for patients, relatives, nursing staff and doctors, while also having a preventive and professional nursing effect in order to improve and prolong the quality of life in the patient's own four walls.

 

Within the project, OFFIS is focusing on the implementation of AAL/AHT scenarios in the homes of the test subjects, developing an AI-supported system that combines numerous findings from previous projects. These systems will be integrated into the SmartLivingNEXT architecture to provide maximum benefit to the project's stakeholders and generate a detailed picture of the residents' health status.
