Researcher (f/m/d) Semantic Technologies in Co-Simulation For the next two years and possibly beyond, we are looking for dedicated support at our Oldenburg site for our Research and Development division Energy.

Future energy research needs good simulation tools to deal with complex issues around the energy transition. As group "Co-Simulation of Multimodal Energy Systems", we further develop our open-source co-simulation framework mosaik, which is already widely used in the community. In the context of the national research data infrastructure for interdisciplinary energy system research, we want to make mosaik accessible and usable for further user groups. To this end, we will work with the support and integration of ontologies and rely on distributed and partly cloud-based approaches.

What you enable:

  • You will get into the structure and functionality of mosaik, further develop our framework independently as well as with our mosaik team and prepare it for the next challenges in energy research.
  • You extend mosaik so that it becomes usable for new users in research.
  • You use semantic technologies, e.g. ontologies, to simplify the creation of simulations with mosaik.
  • You will research with project partners on how to make simulations easily accessible in research. You deal with various services for energy system researchers.

What you bring to the table:

  • You have a Master's degree in computer science/business informatics or a computer science-related field.
  • Knowledge in digitalized energy systems is an advantage, but not absolutely necessary.
  • You can program object-oriented in high-level languages (e.g. Python, Java, C#, ...).
  • You are interested in software development (software architecture, interface development, programming of new components) and like to work with existing (open source) software.
  • Experience in simulation technology is advantageous, but not a necessity.
  • You are curious and like to learn new topics and technologies in computer science and digitalized energy systems independently.
  • You are interested in doing a PhD, independent scientific work, publishing and presenting scientific results, and collaborating with scientific partners.
  • You have a very good knowledge of English (language level B2 or better) for scientific discussions.

What we offer you:

  • You can look forward to a working environment that is very pleasant in human terms and extremely interesting in technical terms.
  • We actively support you in your further professional and scientific qualification through close cooperation with the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg.  The project offers the opportunity to work on a doctoral thesis when meeting the necessary requirements.
  • Work-life balance is important to us - we support this with flexible working hours, consideration of part-time options and home office, among other things.
  • Tolerance, openness and equal opportunities towards people of all genders (m/f/d) are important to us.
  • We would like to continue to increase the proportion of women in our workforce, which has been rising for years.
  • We give preference to applications from severely disabled persons who are professionally suitable.
  • Your position is limited to 24 months with the option of extension and is paid according to TV-L 13.
