The automobile sector is experiencing a rapid increase in automation. Simulation environments are required to examine the impact of automation as well as to design new assistive systems. In response to this, OFFIS operates a research transport simulator in cooperation with Oldenburg University. Used as a development and study platform, it is an established element of research activities in a variety of basic and application-oriented fields.
OFFIS is thus, for example, carrying out research into human-machine interaction in vehicles and developing cognitive models to simulate drivers’ behavior. In the field of highly automated transport we are using the environment for model-based development of driver assistance systems. In addition to this, the transport simulator is also being used for Car2x scenarios that examine interaction between multiple vehicles and/or drivers.
