For several years now, traffic has been steadily increasing, not only on highways but also on the oceans. This generates new requirements for the maritime transportation system of the future. eMIR’s (e-Martime Integrated Reference Platform) goal is to achieve greater safety and efficiency to protect both humans and nature despite simultaneous increased use of maritime routes that already carry large volumes of traffic.
eMIR is a platform for the development and testing of highly automated/autonomous maritime systems designed by OFFIS and the University of Oldenburg together with industry partners. The development of new assistive systems that could, in future, even include autonomous ships will make shipping more commercially efficient and help to prevent natural disasters caused by ship-wrecks.
The research ship ›Zuse‹ is an element of eMIR, used to carry out experiments at sea for the HAG GIS virtual simulation platform and the LABSKAUS physical test platform. New systems and components are tested in the fi eld on reference and test routes between Helgoland and Brunsbüttel before being further developed.
