Software tools for the exchange of image media in clinical research

Goal

In the area of clinical research, medical images are usually exchanged via CDs based on the DICOM standard (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine). The project aims at supporting the exchange of those media in clinical research. In order to reach that goal, best-practice guidelines and standardized software tools are developed for creating and importing such CDs in the context of clinical studies. Thus, the project makes a significant contribution for effectively and efficiently exchanging medical images on media and therefore boosts effectiveness and efficiency in clinical research.

Within this project, OFFIS is going to realize software tools to pseudonymize, mark and assemble medical image data for clinical research applications in order to create high quality DICOM media. Further, receivers of such media will be supported by tools for checking the quality of DICOM media with the test results being shown in an adequate and comprehensible format. OFFIS will also work on tools to let receivers safely import medical image media into the local image archive. Therefore the project heavily supports the efficient and effective conduction of studies in the area of clinical research.
