In HaptiMap geographic information and location based services will be made more accessible for all users. The project is supported by the European Commision with 6.7 Mio. EUR for a duration of four years. Besides the usual visual presentation techniques of digital maps, HaptiMap addresses particularly non-visual interaction methods like touch and hearing to access information. The goal of this project is to provide the developer of geographic applications with a toolkit and guidelines, which simplifies the development of services, which are accessible independently from the users situation, e.g. if the user's senses are impaired or the user is on the move.
The focus of OFFIS in this project is to design new intelligent multimodal user interfaces to access spatial data and to develop best-practice examples that demonstrate the application of the toolkit and guidelines. HaptiMap is coordinated by University Lund, Sweden. Other partners are Navteq, Siemens, BMT Group, CEA, ONCE, Finnish Geodetic Institute, University of Glasgow, Queen’s University, Fundacion Robotiker, Kreis Soest, and Lunds Kommun.
